The British Medical Journal has launched an appeal to ban a word for Christmas. It states: "Trying to ban a word is not only hopeless but also an insult. Worse still, it has totalitarian overtones. The banning of words may be followed by the burning of books and then the burning of people. Nevertheless, it's fun."

Suggestions so far include one from Juliet Richters of the University of New South Wales in ߣߣÊÓƵ, who suggests: "I would ban the word 'community' as in: 'returned to care in the community', which means sent to stay with his elderly mother, who ceases to see her friends or take part in local activities as she is now tied to the house as an unpaid 24-hour carer; 'community pharmacy', which means a privately run small business; and 'community representative', which means a self-appointed do-gooder."
