A delegation representing ߣߣÊÓƵ's leading 'group of eight' universities is to hold a series of meetings with major European research institutions in order to strengthen partnerships and cooperation.

Following the establishment of the group of eight's ߣߣÊÓƵ Centre Europe in Berlin in 2004, the delegation of Vice-Chancellors will come to Europe with the aim of establishing and deepening bilateral relationships with European and national research institutions.

The meetings begin in Paris on 5 September, when the delegation will meet French research agencies including the national centre for scientific research (CNRS) and the national institute for research in computer science and control (INRIA).

The Vice-Chancellors will then move to Brussels, where they will meet European higher education representatives and be briefed on the Sixth and Seventh Framework Programmes, as well as the implementation of the Bologna Process. The tour will finish with a roundtable meeting in Berlin on 8 September hosted by the German Research Foundation (DFG).

According to a communication from the ߣߣÊÓƵn Embassy and Mission to the EU, as well as strengthening research partnerships with European institutions, the delegation also aims to raise awareness of the excellence of ߣߣÊÓƵn research and higher education, particularly among the group of eight universities.

This dual objective for the delegation's visit mirrors the role of the ߣߣÊÓƵ Centre Europe, which not only aims to increase cooperation between the group of eight universities and European research institutions, but also seeks to raise the international profile of ߣߣÊÓƵ's leading universities and promote the opportunities for European students to study in the country.

The member institutions of the group of eight universities are: the University of Adelaide, ߣߣÊÓƵn National University (Canberra), the University of Melbourne, Monash University (Melbourne), the University of New South Wales (Sydney), the University of Queensland (Brisbane), the University of Sydney, and the University of Western ߣߣÊÓƵ (Perth).
