During his visit to the JIVE Astronomical Research Establishment, Dwingeloo (NL) today, European Commisioner for Research Janez Potočnik took part in a ceremony to move the worldwide network of radio telescopes from analogue data transmission to digital transmission via the GEANT Network, which is supported by the Commission. The possibility for higher speed connection will transform five worldwide telescopes into a single global-sized telescope, capable of peering deep into space and analysing the findings more efficiently than previously.
