The latest in a regular series of 'Café Crossfire' debates organised by the Swiss Mission to the EU will take place on 23 March in Brussels, with the title 'How will the EU's R&D boost help it meet the Lisbon goals?'

The invited speakers for the event include EU Science and Research Commissioner Janez Potocnik, as well as the CEO of the Swiss Center for Electronics and Microtechnology, Thomas Hinderling.

Among the questions that the panel will address are:
- How can European policymakers ensure that a substantial increase in public-private partnerships will serve to boost private R&D spending?
- How can the funding of basic research at a European level stimulate the work of ERA?
- How can ERA attract the best and most innovative minds?
- Will the EU's increased funding for research projects yield the growth and innovation Europe needs if it is to meet the Lisbon goals?
