Andrew Dilnot, director of the Institute of Fiscal Studies, is to become the first head of an Oxbridge college to have been educated at a comprehensive school.

Mr Dilnot, who has been elected principal of St Hugh's College, Oxford, will take up his post on October 1. He attended Olchfa Comprehensive School in Swansea before reading politics, philosophy and economics at St John's College, Oxford.
