Divine invigilation

Bored invigilators who spent the summer penning poems based on what they could see in the exam hall or outside its windows were rewarded with prizes last week. Staff at Trinity and All Saints College, Leeds University, judged the best lines to be from Chris Sladen of Oxford, Mike Smith of Stourbridge, Mary Jones of Exeter and Howard Gwynne of Ingatestone. Mr Sladen's entry particularly delighted The Diary. It reads:

"Female students from Keble and Trinity Wrote page after page on divinity God's presence, they felt Could be sensed but not smelt: Which surely precludes masculinity."
