Funding council chiefs Sir Brian Fender and Bahram Bekhradnia might be forgiven for looking a little uncomfortable when they appeared before the Commons select committee on education last week. Fidgeting has broken out among the entire staff of the funding council following an apology from the company that cleans the council's offices. So far, it has been unable to get rid of a problem with carpet mites.
