Oh dear. Roy Anderson, head of infectious diseases and epidemiology at Imperial College, London, was overlooked in the new year honours while a more junior member of his team, Neil Ferguson, got an OBE for advising the government on foot-and-mouth disease. Perhaps Professor Anderson's rehabilitation - after losing his Oxford University job when he falsely accused a female colleague of gaining a senior academic post by having a relationship with a professor - is not yet complete.

Meanwhile, apologies to Lesley Hart, director of lifelong learning at the University of Strathclyde. She was awarded an MBE for services to lifelong learning, but her name was omitted from the round-up in last week's issue.
