It's that time of year when design students nationwide unveil their weird and wonderful inventions.

Coventry University student Jane Aukim has devised a pie holder that protects football fans from burns when munching on their half-time snack. She came up with the circular container with dome lid and small access hole after watching a fan drip gravy on a young girl's head as he struggled to handle a hot pie.

Meanwhile, students at Central St Martins College of Art and Design in London have thought up a futuristic wine bottle. The self-cooling animated bottle has a screen showing where the grapes were grown, how the wine was bottled, taste notes and what food it best accompanies. The bottle, created by Marten Lindquist and Brian Goulding, will be included with an array of student designs to be unveiled at the International Wine Fair in Bordeaux next week.
