On 25 October 2005 Mr Jacques Barrot, Vice President of the Commission, has appointed Karel Van Miert, former European Commissioner, as mediator for Galileo between member states and European industry in order to facilitate decisions on the programme.
The Council noted the Commission's information on the state of play of the Galileo satellite programme, in particular the mediation of Mr Karel Van Miert leading to a compromise with the European industry.
