Spare a thought for the parents of Imogen Hoyle, a second-year marine biology and coastal ecology student at Plymouth University, who will not be returning home to work in her local burger joint over the summer. Instead, she will be setting off for Cape Town and the White Shark Research Institute, where she will learn how to get in and out of an underwater cage surrounded by sharks, how to remain secure in the cage and "how to react in an emergency".
