NOTE To: COST Committee of Senior Officials (CSO) Subject: New COST Domain Structure as approved by the CSO at its163rd meeting on 23/24 November 2005

I The COST Committee of Senior Officials (CSO), at its meeting on 23/24 November 2005, approved the following reconstruction and introduction of COST Domains and Committees:

1. Biomedicine and Molecular Biosciences (BMBS)

2. Food and Agriculture (F & A)

3. Forests, their Products and Services (FPS)

4. Materials, Physical and Nanosciences (PHYMANO)

5. Chemistry and Molecular Sciences and Technologies (CHEMOL)

6. Earth System Science and Environmental Management (ESSEM)

7. Information and Communication Technologies (ICT)

8. Transport and Urban Development (TUD)

9. Individuals, Society, Culture and Health (INSOCH)

Nanosciences and Physics are interdisciplinary issues that will be addressed in all Domains, in particular in Biomedicine and Molecular Biosciences, Chemistry and Molecular Sciences and Technologies and Information and Communication Technologies.

The new domain structure will become operational as from 1 June 2006 with mandates of four years and will replace the current TC structure.

II Along with its decision on the new domain structure, the CSO agreed to the following conclusions on operational issues:
