New Deputy Director General at DG Research

The European Commission has appointed Daniel Jacob as Deputy Director-General for Research. He will be in charge of Community Research Programmes. The 56 year old Belgian national is a lawyer by training, and has been working at the Commission for a number of years. He is currently at the Commission's Directorate-General for Personnel and Administration, where he is Director responsible for staff regulations, policy, management and advice. Prior to that, he was Head of Cabinet for Philippe Busquin, the former EU Research Commissioner.

Mr Jacob's starting date has not yet been set.
