Bill Morris, general secretary of the Transport and General Workers Union, has been installed as chancellor of the new University of Technology in Jamaica.

Paul Light, pro vice-chancellor at Bournemouth University, has been appointed principal of King Alfred's College, Winchester, from November.

Carol Walker, professor of social policy at Sheffield Hallam University, has been appointed to the same position at the University of Lincolnshire and Humberside.

Rebecca Boden, lecturer in accounting and finance at Middlesex University, and Robert Luther, lecturer in accounting at Exeter University, have been appointed professors of accounting at Bristol Business School, University of the West of England.

Robert Galliers, professor of information systems at Warwick Business School, has been appointed professor of information systems at the London School of Economics. Richard Hyman, professor of industrial relations at the University of Warwick, will also take up a chair at the LSE in August.

Kate Chedgzoy, reader in English and comparative literary studies at Warwick University, will take up a chair of renaissance literature at the University of Newcastle next month.

Kingsley Cavell, former professor of chemistry at the University of Tasmania, has been appointed professor of organic chemistry at Cardiff University. Other appointments are: Christopher Jones, former professor of geographic information systems at the University of Glamorgan, has been appointed professor. Adam Schultz, former lecturer at the Institute of Theoretical Geophysics in the department of earth sciences and the departments of applied mathematics and theoretical physics at the University of Cambridge, has been appointed professor of marine geography. Dale Hay, former lecturer in social and development psychology at Cambridge, has been appointed professor.
