Terry Goodison, who has been developing and leading the University of Wolverhampton's BA degree in interactive multimedia communication for six years, has been appointed senior research fellow of The Learning Lab at the University of Wolverhampton.

Stephen Watson, dean of Lancaster University Management School, is to become chair of the Association of Business Schools.

Sir Peter Williams, master of St Catherine's College, Oxford, has been elected president of the Institute of Physics.

Richard Jay, vice-president and senior lecturer in politics at Queen's University Belfast, has been nominated to Northern Ireland's new Civic Forum.

Derek Reid, former chief executive of the Scottish Tourist Board, has been appointed visiting professor in tourism at the University of Abertay Dundee.

Vaneeta D'Andrea has joined City University, London, as the director of the new Education Development Centre, and Bruce MacFarlane has been appointed senior lecturer at the centre.

Goldsmiths College, University of London has announced the following promotions: Les Back to a readership in sociology; Jane Powell to a readership in psychology; Nirmala Rao to a readership in politics; Cris Shore to a readership in anthropology; Linda Pring to a personal chair of psychology. Hanne Castein Strange has been appointed to an emeritus readership in German.

Robin Foster, former director of strategy and development at BBC Broadcast, has been appointed senior research fellow at Bournemouth Media School, Bournemouth University.

George Howarth, director of group environmental affairs at medical devices company Smith and Nephew, has been appointed a visiting professor of engineering design for sustainable development at Bournemouth University.

Stephen Woolgar, professor of sociology and director of the Economic and Social Research Council's research programme Virtual Society, has been appointed professor of marketing at the University of Oxford. He will be a fellow of Green College.
