John Landers , fellow of All Souls and lecturer in historical demography, has been appointed principal of Hertford College, Oxford, succeeding Walter Bodmer in September.

Liverpool University has appointed: Ian Carter , of Glasgow University, director of research; and Stuart Exell , former chief executive officer and chairman of EA Technology, director of business services.

Glasgow University has appointed Paul Brna , former director of research strategy at Northumbria University, director of the Scottish Council for Research in Education Centre.

Oxford University has appointed: John Dellandrea , vice-president and chief advancement officer at the University of Toronto, to the post of pro vice-chancellor (development and external affairs); Giles Kerr , recently group finance director of Amersham plc, director of finance; and Alastair Mitchell Buchan , of the University of Calgary, professor of clinical geratology based at the Nuffield department of clinical medicine.
