Subject: Proposal for a Council Decision concerning the placing on the market, in accordance with
Directive of the European Parliament and of the Council, of a maize
product (Zea mays L., line 1507) genetically modified for resistance to certain lepidopteran pests and
for tolerance to the herbicide glufosinate-ammonium

1. An application to place on the market the above genetically modified maize was submitted in 2004, i.e. before the entry into force of the new Regulation on GM food and feed (Regulation ), in accordance with the procedure laid down in Directive on the deliberate release into the environnment of GMOs.
2. The European Food Safety Authority having given a positive assessment to the product in question, the Commission submitted to the Committee in May 2005, established under Article 30 of Directive , a draft decision authorising the import and use of this GM maize as feed, without covering its cultivation and use as or in food.
