The latest attempt to lure youngsters into science was unveiled last week by the Institute of Physics. It wants pupils to calculate the speed of light by heating chocolate in a microwave, measuring between the melted hot spots and the cold solid spots that result and performing some basic maths.
The institute warns experimenters to be mindful of safety regulations and that "all experimental activities have an inherent risk that should not be underestimated". Not to mention the dangers of introducing molten chocolate to a classroom of kids.
