Many delegates were keen to share their tales of campus bullying and harassment at last week's Association of University Teachers conference. But Steve Wharton, the union's president, repeatedly warned academics not to mention tormentors' names for fear of libel action. One speaker got round this by referring to two senior colleagues in his speech as "the bastards".
