Eyebrows were raised when The Diary spotted that prolific don's diarist Geraldine Van Bueren, professor of international human rights law at Queen Mary, University of London, had been appointed Wates fellow at Goodenough College, London.

However, further investigation revealed that, despite an extra-ordinarily low profile, Good-enough College does exist. It is a postgraduate residential college for students from the dominions, established in 1930 and named after its founder, Frederick Goodenough.
