Are music students so financially stretched that they cannot afford instruments?

Next week will see the first intercollegiate a cappella championship. The universities of Oxford, Cambridge, Newcastle and Durham, and Royal Holloway, London, will be represented at the London event hosted by the a cappella group The Magnets, who have appeared on Blue Peter, no less.

The THES Diary wishes particular success to the group with the silliest name -which, on this occasion, is the University of Cambridge's Bill Pooter and the Gerbils. Poot! Poot!
