The final conference of the research project 'Formal and informal work in Europe: A comparative analysis of their changing relationship and their impact on social integration' (FIWE) will take place in Brussels, Belgium, on October.

The conference, organised in cooperation with the European Commission (DG Research, Unit K3), aims at presenting research on informal work and social integration funded by the key action: 'Improving the socio-economic knowledge base', under the EU Fifth Framework Programme. The conference will first introduce the theoretical, conceptual and empirical dimension of formal and informal work in Europe; then, review the informal work in the work-welfare arrangement of a number of European societies and analyse the informal work in the context of social integration, to end with the subject of informal work, social cohesion and the future of the European Knowledge Society.
