The British Council has a joint research programme available for specific projects between Portuguese universities and polytechnics and British research institutions. Under the programme, applications must be submitted by both partners.
"Applications are invited in both basic science and in areas that promote the theme of Science in Society. Applications in areas such as environment, food science, genetics, health, and information technology will be especially welcome."
