Tory students at the University of Sheffield have an unusual approach to recruiting freshers. On the university's website, Richard Clough, the former president of Conservative Future Sheffield, writes: "Let 'Money and Power' be our war cry (as long as you will be nice about it) for there is no shame in living to have fun!"

Mr Clough also highlights social aspects of the student society, such as "fantastic social events like our 14-pint Hagueathon". He advises: "Writing under personal interests the words 'drinking and debauchery' is fine but writing 'drinking and debauchery with the Conservatives' carries infinitely more weight, particularly down south."
