The University of Bradford has unveiled a specialist chamber for testing mobile phone handsets.

The £800,000 anechoic chamber, financed by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council and the European Union, blocks out extraneous radio waves to allow scientists to test sensors and antennae on mobile devices in a controlled environment.

The team at the university's Mobile and Satellite Communications Research Centre is measuring how much radiation passes into the hand of a person holding a mobile phone with the aim of improving handset performance.
