Girton College, Cambridge has received an anonymous £5 million donation. Half of the money will be used to set up a fund for supporting teaching posts and the other half will be added to the college's endowment to support student services and facilities. Ten years ago the single gift of two friends of the college enabled Girton to launch its student bursary scheme.
