Edward Hill , director of the Natural Environment Research Council's Proudman Oceanographic Laboratory in Liverpool, has been appointed director of the Southampton Oceanography Centre.

Ashridge Leadership Centre has appointed Bette Baldwin , head of public involvement at the National Health Service Direct Online, in a part-time research capacity.

Buckingham University has appointed Karol Sikora dean elect of its new medical school. Michael Stewart and Janet Grant , members of the professorial staff of the Open University, have been appointed visiting professors.

Mark l'Anson , founder of Integrated Micro Products, has been appointed David Goldman visiting professor of business innovation (a post named for the former chairman of Sage plc) at Newcastle-Upon-Tyne Univer-sity Business School.
