About the role

The Senior Advisor, Vocational Education Policy & Strategy plays a pivotal role in shaping the strategic direction of RMIT's College of Vocational Education. Reporting to the Director, Governance & Strategic Initiatives, you will provide strategic policy advice, lead key initiatives, and strengthen the College's engagement with government and external stakeholders.

You will analyse emerging policy and reform across the vocational education sector, prepare high-quality submissions, executive briefings and reports, and provide evidence-based advice to support strategic decision-making. You will also identify opportunities to enhance the College's external impact and influence through effective policy and stakeholder engagement.

Working closely with the Director, you will support the College's governance, reporting and risk functions, coordinating high-quality papers and submissions for University committees and executive forums. This is a hands-on role that combines strategic thinking with operational delivery, requiring excellent judgement, collaboration and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

To be successful in this position, you will have:


	Strategic thinking capability, including the ability to position initiatives within a broader organisational and external context and identify connections across multiple priorities.
	Highly developed conceptual, analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to synthesise complex and ambiguous information into clear, evidence-based insights and recommendations.
	Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and effectively to diverse audiences using a range of methods, and to produce high-quality professional materials within tight timeframes.
	Ability to influence, build relationships and collaborate effectively with senior stakeholders, including executives, government representatives and external partners.
	Proven experience in analysing policy and evidence to develop clear and credible policy positions, submissions and strategic advice.
	Ability to identify opportunities, design innovative approaches and lead the delivery of strategy informed by analysis and insight.
	Experience operating in complex organisational and policy environments, with strong judgement and the ability to manage competing priorities.
	Working knowledge of legislative processes and government policy frameworks at state and/or federal level is desirable.
	Knowledge of the vocational education and training sector and/or post-secondary education landscape is advantageous.


Qualifications


	Relevant qualifications and proven experience in a mid-senior level role in either the education sector or relevant industry
	A relevant tertiary qualification is highly desirable and/or significant relevant experience.

The Faculty of Psychology consists of the Dean's office and the studies service center, as well as the Department of Cognition, Emotion, and Methods in Psychology, the Department of Occupational, Economic and Social Psychology, the Department of Applied Psychology: Work, Education and Economy, the Department of Development and Educational Psychology, the Outpatient Unit for Research, Teaching and Practice. Currently, nearly 3500 students of Psychology are enrolled in Bachelor's, Master's and PhD programs, attending nearly 200 courses per semester, which are taught and supervised by 220 teachers.

Your personal sphere of influence:

As a university assistant prae doc, you will join the Department of Cognition, Emotion, and Methods in Psychology at the Faculty of Psychology. The Department consists of approximately 100 staff members organized in eight research units with��fMRI, EEG, fNIRS, VR, eye-tracking, physiology, and brain stimulation facilities. The interdisciplinary Methods of Psychology team currently consists of several post-doctoral and PhD students with backgrounds in psychology, life science, neuroscience, computer science, engineering, and physics. The focus of our research is to��develop new neurotechnologies��and AI tools to better understand psychological phenomena and to advance experimental therapies for debilitating psychiatric and neurological disorders.

Your future tasks:

As a new member of our team, you will actively contribute to research, teaching, and administrative activities. This includes:


	Participation in research projects and scientific studies focused on the��application of computational methods��such as machine learning and large language models to psychological domains, with a particular emphasis on anxiety disorders.
	Finalizing your dissertation agreement within��12–18 months.
	Working on and completing your doctoral dissertation.
	Attending the��Vienna Doctoral School��in Cognition, Behaviour and Neuroscience (VDS CoBeNe).

This is part of your personality:

Candidates should hold an��excellent university degree in psychology. Strong computational skills are required, particularly in Python (numpy, pandas, scikit-learn), R (Tidyverse, data.table, caret), JASP, jamovi, and SQL.

Additional experience with Bash, and Git is advantageous. Fluency in both English and German is required.

For this position, we are seeking applicants with a��strong interest in applying computational methods��- such as machine learning (specifically LightGBM and XGBoost), language processing (LLM and NLP), and statistics - to research on anxiety disorders. The ideal candidate will have experience conducting and analyzing behavioral experiments, setting up online experiments, performing statistical analyses - including data processing and validation - and running computational simulations. Prior teaching experience in statistics, probability, research methodology, and machine learning (in Python and R) is an advantage. Experience in developing and writing grant applications is also desirable.

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated��Radiation Physics Laboratory Manager��to lead the safe and effective operation of our radiation teaching laboratory, which has recently been refurbished as part of a £2.7M project providing state-of-the-art facilities. This is a varied and technically engaging role that combines laboratory management, radiation safety leadership, and support for both teaching and research activities.

Working with a high degree of autonomy, you will play a central role in ensuring that all laboratory operations comply with current regulations, while delivering an excellent environment for undergraduate and postgraduate learning.

Although your major responsibility will be to manage the radiation teaching laboratory and source stores, you may also be required to undertake experimental procedures in other Physics laboratories to support teaching and research activities.

Key Responsibilities

Laboratory Management and Radiation Safety


	Lead the day-to-day management of the radiation teaching laboratory, ensuring safe and compliant operations at all times.
	Act as��Radiation Protection Supervisor (RPS), maintaining compliance with ionising radiation regulations and best practice.
	Develop and implement risk assessments, justifications, protocols and contingency plans for laboratory activities.
	Oversee the secure storage, tracking, and record keeping of radioactive sources and nuclear materials.
	Manage ordering, issuing, receiving, and disposal processes in line with relevant legislation (including IRR17).
	Support regulatory inspections and ensure audit readiness at all times.


Teaching and Student Support


	Provide technical support for undergraduate and postgraduate laboratory classes.
	Train and supervise students in the safe use of equipment and experimental techniques.
	Deliver inductions, technical advice, and ongoing support for undergraduate and postgraduate research projects.


Equipment and Technical Expertise


	Maintain and repair laboratory equipment.
	Ensure laboratories are fully operational and prepared for teaching and research use.
	Provide specialist technical advice and problem-solving expertise to staff and students.


About you

You should:


	Have good communication skills and be able to deliver a high level of customer care.
	Have knowledge of relevant legislation such as "IRR17"��and a strong understanding of the health and safety aspects of working with sealed and unsealed radioactive materials.

About the Role

The Discipline Lead, Medical Radiations is a senior academic leadership role responsible for shaping the strategic direction, academic quality, research performance and external engagement of the Medical Radiations discipline within the School of Health and Biomedical Sciences. The role will provide people leadership and discipline-specific governance across Medical Radiations education, research and professional practice, with a focus on strengthening program quality, student outcomes, accreditation readiness, workforce relevance and academic culture. The Discipline Lead will also build the discipline's research engagement by connecting staff with productive research networks, supporting emerging areas of scholarly activity, and strengthening partnerships with clinical, industry, government and professional bodies. They will lead and support academic staff, foster a high-performing and collaborative discipline culture, and contribute to the School's broader strategic priorities through teaching, research supervision, governance and academic leadership at School, College and University levels.

To be successful in this position, you'll have:


	Demonstrated ability to lead, manage and review Medical Radiations award programs, curriculum quality, student experience, accreditation requirements and alignment with professional practice expectations and continuous improvement in learning and teaching outcomes.
	Evidence of strategic academic leadership within a discipline, School or University setting, including the ability to lead staff, build trust and accountability, support a positive and inclusive culture, contribute to shared goals, and advance the profile and sustainability of Medical Radiations education and research.
	Demonstrated national distinction and an internationally recognised profile in research, scholarship and/or translational practice relevant to Medical Radiations, including medical imaging, radiation therapy, nuclear medicine, clinical education, scholarship of teaching and learning, health policy, clinical guideline development, workforce development or a closely related field, with the capacity to engage staff and partners in research and scholarly activity that strengthens the discipline's scholarly profile, educational quality and professional impact.
	Proven ability to build and sustain research activity in Medical Radiations or related health disciplines, including attracting external funding, developing research teams and strengthening partnerships with clinical, industry, government or professional bodies.
	Experience attracting, supervising and mentoring higher degree by research candidates in Medical Radiations, health sciences or related areas to support strong research outcomes and research culture.
	Demonstrated ability to lead improvements in teaching quality, assessment, simulation, clinical learning and student readiness for professional practice in Medical Radiations, including the ability to support staff to adopt evidence-informed approaches to curriculum design and delivery.
	Demonstrated experience contributing to financial, governance, workload, quality and compliance processes within a university, preferably in a health discipline with clinical education, accreditation or placement requirements.
	High-level interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills, including the ability to work effectively with senior leaders, academic teams, clinical partners, professional bodies and external stakeholders to deliver agreed outcomes.
