Job Purpose

The Senior Research Fellow/Research Fellow for Design Factory will play a pivotal role in identifying opportunities and problems that others choose to ignore and solve it with innovative and ingenious solutions that defy convention using proven technologies and innovations. Collaborating closely with faculty, industry partners, researchers, and students, we will co-create impactful, practical, and commercially viable products that bridge the gap between technologies and customers, encompassing environmental, social, and economic dimensions.

Key Responsibilities

Applied Research and Innovation


	Leads Research Fellows (RFs) and Research Engineers/Assistants (RE/RAs) in the end-to-end development and productisation of solutions, including experimental design and prototype validation.
	Lead and manage projects focused on product innovation, including, Artificial Intelligence, renewable energy, circular economy, sustainable materials, and carbon reduction technologies.
	Explore emerging technologies, frameworks, and practices to advance product solutions in industries.
	Establishes challenging yet achievable project goals; conducts structured reviews to ensure timely delivery of milestones and project deliverables.
	Champions thought leadership in research and development, driving innovation across the organization.
	Oversees facility planning and design, encompassing layout, equipment, utilities, and resource allocation, while developing business plans and ensuring adherence to budget and timelines.
	Identifies, defines, and resolves complex, non-obvious problems within existing systems and processes through rigorous analytical thinking.
	Cultivates strategic relationships with industry partners and vendors in support of research initiatives.
	Mentors and develops team members; provides leadership in scheduling, task allocation, and performance monitoring.
	Co-supervises student projects in collaboration with academic staff, fostering a strong research pipeline.
	Maintains comprehensive Laboratory and Project Risk Assessments in full compliance with Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) regulations.


Industry Engagement


	Collaborate with industry partners to co-create innovative products that enhance their portfolio and align with strategic business goals.
	Identify emerging trends and opportunities in Product Innovation to position SIT as a key partner in Design Thinking, New Product Development and Product innovation.
	Foster partnerships with businesses, government agencies, and other stakeholders to develop impactful projects that enhance environmental, social, and economic outcomes.
	Technical professionals who will work with local enterprises to frame projects, identify capabilities needed from the industry ecosystem, IHLs and centres.
	Involve in industry engagements, help to bring in higher value-added projects for the centres in SIT, Polytechnics and ITE. 


Project Management


	Oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of sustainability-related projects, ensuring timely completion and high-quality outcomes.
	Secure funding for research and innovation projects through grant applications and proposals.
	Monitor project progress, budgets, and milestones, providing regular updates to stakeholders.


Professional Development and Expertise


	Stay updated with developments in sustainability innovation, including new technologies, regulations, and industry practices.


Teaching and Mentorship


	Supervise and mentor students in industry projects, providing technical guidance and fostering an applied learning environment.
	Contribute to the development of product development curricula by integrating industry insights and best practices.


Job Requirements


	PhD with a minimum of 10 years of relevant industry or research experience; or
	Bachelor's or Master's degree with a minimum of 15 years of relevant professional experience.
	Deliver high-quality and professional ethics with passion for business development and managing customer relationships.
	Strong business acumen, project management experience and results-oriented with a strategic mindset.
	Strong negotiation and interpersonal skills and able to adapt in a fast-paced business environment.
	Good experience in Product Management: Develop and implement strategies for integrating sustainability and energy efficiency into the product lifecycle, from conception to market launch.
	Strong analytical, project management, and communication skills.
	Experience in writing project proposals and grants will be an added advantage.
	Extensive experience and knowledge of industry practices to bring industry perspective to SIT.
	Keen interest in innovation projects, with demonstrated ability in developing solutions to technical problems.
	Strong supervisory skills and enjoy working closely with students in an educational environment.
	Demonstrate proficiency to keep abreast of development in the field and pursue professional certification programs. Possess industrial certifications in relevant areas will be an added advantage.

The School of Graduate Studies (GS) was established to strengthen the central support for postgraduate programmes and monitor their quality in alignment with the University’s strategic direction of expanding and providing quality postgraduate education in the digital era. The GS also offers postgraduate programmes up to doctoral level in various disciplines and provides professional education for the wider society. It has a wide research and teaching scope and knowledge transfer programmes that promote interdisciplinary teaching and research related to policy studies and management, health and well-being studies, higher education, and urban studies.

The GS is now searching for staff who possess research and teaching experiences in these areas at postgraduate level:


	Social determinants of health and well-being
	Health and social services management
	Ageing, well-being and welfare policies
	Health and well-being of children and youth
	Research methods and data analytics


The appointee will be expected to (a) support and lead in conducting high quality research; (b) engage in teaching and learning activities in the areas specified above; (c) support academic programme management and knowledge transfer activities; (d) contribute to academic programme/course development, and (e) contribute to other administrative duties as required by supervisors, such as academic programme promotion.

General Requirements

Applicants should have (i) a doctoral degree in a relevant discipline such as social policy, social work or sociology awarded no more than five years prior to the commencement of the appointment; (ii) substantial research experience and achievements; (iii) good experience in teaching in the specified areas; (iv) excellent interpersonal, organisational and communication skills; and (v) proficiency in English and Putonghua. Preference will be given to candidates with outstanding academic training and international exposure.

Appointment

The conditions of appointment will be competitive. Remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits include annual leave, medical and dental benefits, mandatory provident fund, gratuity and incoming passage and baggage allowance for the eligible appointee. Appointment will be normally made on a contract basis for up to three years.

The laboratory of Dr. Djellel Difallah in the Division of Science, New York University Abu Dhabi, seeks a Post-Doctoral Associate or a Research Associate to join a lab focused on applied machine learning.

The successful applicant will participate in research involving human computation, knowledge discovery, machine learning, and data science. The position will provide the opportunity to develop applied research skills in machine learning, interact with an international network of collaborators, and gain post-doctoral research experience.

The ideal candidate is self-motivated and can work independently, has a passion for AI and its applications, and is willing to learn new technologies. The candidate should have a PhD in Computer Science or a closely related field. Relevant background and skills include:


	Strong foundation in one of the following areas: Machine Learning / Information Retrieval / Knowledge Graph Representation / Recommender Systems
	Graph Theory/Network Science
	Python, and up-to-date machine learning libraries

The Center for Interacting Urban Networks, New York University Abu Dhabi, seeks to recruit a Junior Research Scientist to support the project LANDMark on research on land economics, in any of the following areas:


	Measurement of land prices, with a focus on imputation techniques
	Land value determinants: public infrastructures (transport, health, and education services)
	Macroeconomic stability and instability in the presence of land as a fixed, non-produced asset
	Taxation of land wealth as an alternative to the consumption tax and the capital tax
	The political economy of land and its taxation
	Land, fixed resources, and political conflict


The successful applicant will contribute to the research centered on any of these themes.

The qualified candidate will have an MSc or an MA in economics or another quantitative field with no more than five years from receipt of the degree, and an appetite for working on interdisciplinary teams.

This position requires:


	Research experience in the mentioned areas of land (in a broad sense, including housing, macroeconomics, labor, urban, spatial economics, political economy, and conflict).
	Excellent communication skills in English.
	Ability to work in teams

This project, developed by Etienne Wasmer, professor of Economics and program head in Economics at NYUAD, and funded for the next 6 years (2027-2032), brings together a group of researchers working on land all over the world. A team of 4 postdocs will constitute the project's core. Associations and collaborative research funding projects with researchers in Economics, Engineering, Computer Science, and Political Science are encouraged. The post-doctoral associate will be hosted in the Social Science Division, near the economics faculty, and can be affiliated with CITIES (infra).
