About Sulaimani Polytechnic University

Sulaimani Polytechnic University was originally founded in 1996 as the Foundation of Technical Institutions. In 2003 it was renamed Foundation of Technical Education in Sulaimani. It was granted university status in 2012 and became Sulaimani Polytechnic University.
The university’s main campus is located in Sulaymaniyah, a city in Iraq.
There are also campuses situated in the towns of Dukan, Kalar, Halabja, Chamchamal, Darbandikhan and Khanaqin.
The university is organised academically into five colleges: technical college of engineering, technical college of informatics, technical college of administration, college of medical and health technologies, and the technical college of applied sciences. Each college is divided into different departments, which offer a wide range of courses at both undergraduate and graduate degree level.
The Research Centre at the university welcomes local and international scholars to carry out research in a variety of fields including software engineering, environmental studies, agricultural science, engineering urban design and city planning, and biomedicine.
In 2014 the university opened its International English Language Centre. The centre provides courses to the university’s students and staff, as well as members of the public.
