The Technical University of Moldova was originally established in 1964 as the Polytechnic Institute. It is the only higher education institution for engineering in Moldova. The university is located in Chisinau, the capital of Moldova. Chisinau is the country’s largest transportation hub and a major industrial centre. When the university was first established it had just five faculties: electrotechnics, mechanics, technology, constructions, and economics. It has since expanded and today offers nine faculties: energetics and electrical engineering, mechanical, industrial engineering and transport, computers, information and microelectronics, electronics and telecommunications, food technology, textiles and polygraphy, constructions, geodesy and cadastre, urbanism and architecture, economic engineering and business. Each faculty offers a range of both undergraduate and graduate degree programmes. There are various clubs, societies and organisations on offer for students to join such as the basketball team which competes in the Moldovan Super League. The university is a member of the Francophone University Agency (AUF), an international association that is committed to the economic, social and cultural development of society. The agency represents a global network of universities and research centres from more than 100 countries that use the French language. As a member of the AUF, the university has developed partnerships with other higher education institutions across the world in countries such as Canada, Belgium, France, Romania, Sweden and Ukraine.

Senior Research Fellow in Sensor Technology

Applications are invited for a Senior Research Fellow position (0.8FTE) within the School of Electronics and Computer Science at the University of Southampton. The project will involve the development of an innovative new multiparametric sensor technology to monitor the microbial properties of cattle rumen. The ultimate aim is to design, test and deploy the sensor bolus to measure and reduce methane emissions from cattle. The successful candidate will have a PhD or equivalent professional qualification and experience in a relevant physical/engineering science. The candidates must possess detailed knowledge and experience in miniature electrochemical sensor design, fabrication and testing. We are looking for a self-motivated person, able to organise their own research activities effectively, and collaborate successfully across disciplines. The successful candidate will be a good communicator and will be expected to take the lead in preparing reports, presenting results to the consortium and writing research papers. You must also be able to work effectively in a team and organize time, tasks and responsibilities with other team members.
