The Lecturer is a member of the Department of General Education and delivers English-medium instruction primarily for Academic Communication Skills to first-year undergraduates across STEM and Humanities/Social Sciences cohorts. The role provides EAP/ESP-based teaching to develop seminar participation, presentations, discussion of readings, and short academic texts using appropriate academic language (vocabulary and register) and ethical source use. The Lecturer implements shared assessments and interactive pedagogy, adapts tasks and materials for different disciplinary contexts, localizes content for the Uzbekistani setting, and may teach additional General Education courses relevant to academic communication and student success, subject to departmental needs and qualifications. Key Teaching Areas Academic & Communication Skills: seminar discussion, academic speaking, presentations, and collaborative communication English for Academic Purposes (EAP) / English for Specific Purposes (ESP): academic vocabulary and register, discipline-relevant language use, and communication in university contexts Integrated Academic Language Skills: speaking, listening, academic reading, and reading-to-write/speak tasks aligned to course outcomes Academic Literacy & Integrity: source use, paraphrasing, summarising, referencing basics, and responsible use of information Foundational Academic Writing Support: short academic texts (e.g., paragraphs, summaries, reflections), organisation, clarity, and mechanics as required by course tasks Intercultural Communication & Classroom Norms: culturally responsive teaching, participation norms, and localization of materials/examples for the Uzbekistani context Assessment and Feedback: implementing common rubrics, providing formative feedback, and supporting students across mixed proficiency levels Core Responsibilities Teach a teaching load in English as defined by the employment contract and departmental workload policy, including associated office hours and assessment duties. Design and facilitate active learning sessions (discussion-based, task-based, project- based). Implement course assessments and rubrics consistently across sections. Provide timely feedback, support student progress, and maintain accurate records. Participate in course coordination meetings and contribute to syllabus refinement. Hold office hours and provide student advising related to academic communication skills. Contribute to quality assurance activities (assessment moderation, peer observation, course review). Minimum Qualifications Master’s degree (or higher) in TESOL/Applied Linguistics/Composition/Rhetoric/Education or closely related field. Demonstrated experience teaching academic speaking/communication in an English- medium university context. Proven ability to deliver interactive lessons for multilingual learners. Preferred Qualifications PhD in a relevant field. Native-level English proficiency (e.g., native speaker or demonstrably equivalent proficiency in academic and professional contexts). Experience teaching STEM communication or first-year seminars. Experience with assessment design, rubrics, moderation, and course coordination. Experience in international or cross-cultural higher education settings. Required Skills Strong classroom facilitation and discussion leadership. Ability to scaffold language and thinking skills for mixed proficiency groups. Clear, professional communication and collaborative teamwork.
